В теории помнят о сдвиге времен, но продолжают делать ошибки в свободном говорении. Данная подборка упражнений поможет закрепить перевод прямой речи в косвенную в английском языке.
Deaf man
Уровни – pre-intermediate –intermediate
Цель — практиковать перевод в непрямую речь в ситуации общения. Для выполнения этого задания учащихся должно быть больше трёх.
Student A произносит заранее подготовленное утверждение, обращаясь к student B (можно раздать предложения, напечатанные на карточках). Утверждения должны включать разнообразные времена глагола в зависимости от уровня студента. Student B притворяется, что не расслышал предложение и просит student С повторить вопрос в косвенной речи.
Например,
Student A: My neighbour has been to the USA.
Student B (to student C): What did he say?
Student C: He said that he had been to the USA.
Student B: Oh, thank you.

Цель — практиковать перевод в косвенную речь в групповом общении. Попросите учащихся подготовить 3-7 вопросов (в зависимости от количества участников).
Например,
- What’s your favourite TV programme?
- Have you ever changed a wheel on a car?
- Where will you be at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning?
- What time did you wake up today?
- Are you going out tonight?
Затем студенты ходят по классу, задают каждому одногруппнику вопрос и получают на него ответ. После выполнения задания преподаватель спрашивает каждого студента, какие вопросы ему задавали и каким был его ответ.

Цель — практиковать косвенную речь в парах. Преподаватель раздаёт список утверждений. Например,

Студентам в парах необходимо разыграть диалог, в котором одна их сторон предоставила неверную информацию. Также можно продолжать диалог, дополняя его последующими репликами.
Например,
A: He’s married.
B: But you told me he wasn’t married, he was divorced!
A: Probably there was a misunderstanding.

Цель — отработать reporting verbs.
Спросите студентов какие новости о политике или о звёздах шоу бизнеса обсуждаются в последнее время. Попросите составить несколько заголовков, используя глаголы: accuse, deny, claim, insist, agree, admit, promise.
Например,
The soap star denied that she was having an affair.

Цель — тренировать непрямую речь с помощью аутентичного аудирования.
Задание является вариацией “Who asked what”? для индивидуального обучения.
Подберите видео-интервью со знаменитостью, которая нравится студенту. Попросите учащегося посмотреть его и выписать 3-7 вопросов, которые задавали актёру или певцу. Также можно записать его ответы.
Например,
The interviewer asked him how old his children were and he answered that they were 18 and 15.

Прямая и косвенная речь в английском языке, или как еще называют данный раздел грамматики — согласование времен, требует знания основных английских времен. Основная идея при переводе из прямой речи в косвенную — сдвигаться на одно время назад. Косвенные вопросы также имеют особенности, так как порядок членов сохраняется прямым, как в утверждении.

Present Simple меняется на Past Simple (are going –> was going). Вопросительный порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения.
- He asked her who was her favourite actor.
Present Simple меняется на Past Simple (is –> was). В этом предложении “Who is your favourite actor?” вопросительного порядка слов нет изначально, так как это вопрос к подлежащему. В косвенной речи также сохраняется порядок слов повествовательного предложения.
- A man asked me if I had a car.
Present Simple меняется на Past Simple (have –> had). Общие вопросы переводятся в косвенную речь при помощи союзов if/whether. Вопросительный порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения.
- My father asked me where I had been the day before.
Past Simple меняется на Past Perfect (were –> had been). Вопросительный порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения. Yesterday меняется на the day before.
- Helen asked him if he would be at home.
Future Simple меняется на Future in the Past (will be –> would be). Общие вопросы переводятся в косвенную речь при помощи союзов if/whether. Вопросительный порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения.
Задание 4
- He said that he could drive a car.
В косвенной речи can меняется на could.
- She told me that I ought to call her.
Если после to say имеется дополнение, обозначающее лицо, к которому обращаются с речью (to me), то say заменяется tell. Глагол ought в косвенной речи не изменяется.
- She said that he must stay there.
В косвенной речи модальный глагол must в значении приказания и долженствования остается без изменений. Here меняется на there.
- They told me that I should drive more carefully.
Если после to say имеется дополнение, обозначающее лицо, к которому обращаются с речью (to me), то say заменяется tell. Глагол should в косвенной речи не изменяется.
Задание 5
- the day before
В косвенной речи yesterday меняется на the day before.
- that day
В косвенной речи today меняется на that day.
- the next day
В косвенной речи tomorrow меняется на the next day.
- two days before
В косвенной речи the day before yesterday меняется на two days before.
